₹6 Lakh Per Year in Month: ₹50,000 Gross, ₹40,438 In Hand

Your recurring monthly credit, your annual net cash, and what changes if variable pay is not paid in full.

Corrected 29 August 2026. An earlier version of this page excluded target variable pay from both received cash and taxable salary, which understated income tax. Figures are recalculated under model PS-A3. What changed →

Short answer: ₹6 lakh a year is ₹50,000 a month before anything is deducted. After employer costs, provident fund and tax, a ₹6 lakh package pays a recurring monthly credit of ₹40,438. Including the ₹60,000 target variable paid in full, annual net cash is ₹5,45,262 — 90.9% of CTC.

Tax Year 2026-27 · model PS-A3 · 40% basic · 10% target variable, primary scenario assumes 100% of it is paid · provident fund on the capped ₹15,000 wage basis · professional tax excluded because it varies by state · employer NPS not modelled. Your employer’s structure will differ.

Retention starts improving from here

You receive 90.9% of CTC as annual net cash on the primary scenario, up from 89.4% at ₹5 lakh. That improvement is arithmetic rather than a raise: the fixed employer charges are now a smaller share of a larger package.

This continues until roughly ₹12 lakh, after which income tax takes over and the share falls again.

If variable pay is not paid in full

ScenarioVariable paidAnnual net cashIncome tax% of CTC
None paid₹0₹4.85 L₹080.9%
Half paid₹30,000₹5.15 L₹085.9%
All paid (primary)₹60,000₹5.45 L₹090.9%

Unpaid target variable is not a deduction and not money permanently lost. It is pay that was targeted and not earned in that year, and it is not taxed.

Provident fund basis

The figures above use the capped ₹15,000 wage basis, where employee and employer each contribute ₹21,600 a year. If your employer contributes on full basic wages instead, the combined contribution is ₹57,600 a year and annual net cash becomes ₹5,30,862. Both bases are permitted — check your payslip.

Frequently asked questions

What is the in-hand salary for 6 LPA?

Your recurring monthly credit is about ₹40,438. Over a full year, assuming all of the ₹60,000 target variable is paid, annual net cash is ₹5,45,262 — 90.9% of CTC. Professional tax is excluded because it varies by state.

How much income tax is payable on a 6 LPA package?

None. Taxable salary of ₹4,91,862 is within the section 156(2)(a) rebate limit. If none of the target variable is paid, tax is ₹0 instead, because unpaid variable pay is not taxed.

What happens if my variable pay is not paid in full at 6 LPA?

Annual net cash falls from ₹5,45,262 at full payout to ₹4,85,262 at nil payout, and tax falls from ₹0 to ₹0. Your recurring monthly credit of ₹40,438 is unaffected, because variable pay is normally paid separately.

Why is 6 LPA divided by twelve not my monthly salary?

CTC includes employer costs that never enter your account: employer provident fund of ₹21,600 a year and a gratuity provision of ₹11,538. Target variable pay of ₹60,000 is also normally paid separately rather than monthly.
