PM-KISAN is the government's flagship income support scheme for farmers. It provides ₹6,000 per year to all landholding farmer families across India, paid in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 every four months. The money is transferred directly into the farmer's Aadhaar-linked bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), cutting out middlemen entirely.
Since its launch in February 2019, the scheme has disbursed over ₹3 lakh crore to more than 11 crore farmer families. For small and marginal farmers — who make up over 86% of India's farming community — this ₹6,000 provides crucial support during lean agricultural periods, helping with seeds, fertilisers, and basic household needs.
All landholding farmer families are eligible, regardless of the size of their landholding. The family is defined as husband, wife, and minor children. Eligibility is determined by state government land records. The following categories are excluded: institutional landholders, current or former holders of constitutional posts, serving or retired government officials and employees, professionals like doctors, engineers, lawyers, and CAs registered with professional bodies, and anyone who paid income tax in the last assessment year.
New registration: Visit the official portal pmkisan.gov.in and click "New Farmer Registration." Enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number, and state. If your name is in the state land records, you will be registered. You can also register through your local Common Service Centre (CSC) or the agriculture department office.
Check payment status: Go to pmkisan.gov.in, click "Beneficiary Status," and enter your Aadhaar number or mobile number. You will see the details of all instalments received, including dates and amounts.
If your instalment is stuck, the most common reasons are: Aadhaar not linked to bank account (visit your bank to link), incorrect name in land records versus Aadhaar (visit your tehsil office to correct), or eKYC not completed (complete it on the PM-KISAN portal or through the PMKISAN mobile app). Each instalment period has a deadline — if your records are not verified by then, that instalment may be delayed to the next cycle.
